The most recent Industry Report from CareerJunction reveals that 13 professions are currently
experiencing high demand, with restricted or scarce talent pools. These professions offer monthly
salaries ranging from R27 100.00 to R90 000.00 in South Africa. The report sourced its data from 5,000 of
the nation’s major recruiters, agencies, and employers that post job openings on the CareerJunction
portal.
Recruitment in the Architecture and Engineering sector has increased by 8%, while there is also a
notable uptick in demand for Cleaning, Maintenance and Repair professionals (+5%) and Marketing
professionals (+4%).
Periodically, the Department of Home Affairs issues a Critical Skills list designed to entice foreign
professionals possessing skulls in short supply in South Africa. The goal is to address economic
bottlenecks caused by shortages of these specific skills.
South Africa has introduced the Trusted Employer Scheme, offering potential benefits to operational
companies registered in South Africa. These advantages include streamlined visa applications,
expedited visa processing times for skilled foreign workers, and support from the dedicated Trusted
Employer Unit within the Department of Home Affairs.
In light of this development, CareerJunction conducted an analysis of the latest recruitment trends
spanning the last six months of 2023 to explore professions currently experiencing high demand with
limited or scarce talent pools.
CareerJunction provided insights unto the demand for each skill across provinces, categorising them
as very high, high, medium, low, very low, or with hardly any demand. The portal also highlighted
pertinent information such as work-from-home opportunities and market-related salaries for the
identified professions.
