Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic we have all been affected in some way whereby our lives were changed drastically. Part of this was the downfall of the economy with all its sectors, but now we can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.
The tourism industry met one of the hardest hits during the tough and uncertain times that we faced however there has been a strong bounce-back and promising growth prospects for the local tourism industry. There has been reports of an increase in overall travel spending in 2022 โ supported by the hospitality and tour operators contributing 35% and 16%, respectively. โThis points to a strong rebound of the sector as we have seen a 72% increase in travel turnover and a 71% increase in transaction volumes which points to optimistic signals ahead of the festive seasonโ according to Stephan Claassen. It also suggests that short stays and breakaways coupled with experiences are popular trends in the local markets, particularly along the coastal regions. South Africa’s business confidence has also reached its highest average in four years, suggesting the economy has largely recovered from Covid-19.
Another industry that is expecting a major employment boom is Agriculture and Farming. According to the latest BFAP Agricultural Employment Brief for 2022 it points to increased job growth. The Western Cape and Limpopo are seeing the largest growth in employment of farm workers currently.
