The general idea and social norm of what to do after school is study at a University, right? Why be limited to just University? Post-Matric is wide and full of opportunities for you. This does not need to be stressful as you have a variety of options. Choosing to go to University is a possibility for many, but not all. Many people do not have the desire to go to University and for them, there are a lot of options out there. Navigating your post-Matric life does not need to be something you should worry about as there are so many possible avenues for you to take. Below is a compiled list of them.
College
South Africa has a wide range of colleges for future students to choose from. These include private colleges, private higher education institutions and public TVET Colleges. There are a number of places in the country for you should you choose to continue your studies somewhere outside of a University.
Private Colleges
Private Colleges in South Africa offer students the experience of being on a campus as well as qualifications that are equivalent to a University qualification. A lot of these private colleges also offers online courses. Some of the most popular private colleges in South Africa are South African College of Applied Psychology, Rosebank College, Varsity College and Damelin College.
Private Higher Education Institutes
There are a lot of private higher education institution qualifications that are equivalent to a University qualification. These institutions tend to focus on a specific discipline and focuses on preparing students for the world of work. Some of the most popular private higher education institutions include Boston City Campus, Regent Business School, MANCOSA, TSIBA and STADIO.
TVET Colleges
TVET Colleges are higher education institutions where you can study further from Grade 10 onward. At these TVET Colleges, you can gain knowledge and skills for the real world. TVET Colleges are geared through government with South Africa having a total of 50 of them, many in each and every province. These colleges provide both theoretical and practical work to students.
Internships
Internships provide you with great work experience that looks great on your CV and helps you to get a permanent job. There are also many internships available for people who just have Matric. Internships provide real time knowledge and practice for the career you wish to embark on. Internships consist of the intern working on projects, learning about their field and making the connections they need to for the future.
Learnerships
Doing a Learnership is a great opportunity if you want to new learn skills and develop a career in a field you are passionate about. Learnerships are there to help you gain experience and practical training and generally lasts for 12 to 18 months. Learnerships are usually done to secure a formal qualification. Once the learnership is complete you receive a nationally recognized qualification in both theoretical and practical work components.
Jobs Without A Degree
There are many jobs out there for individuals that have completed Matric only. When you’re applying for jobs, your CV is the most important thing and you will need to invest time into creating one that would make you look employable. Cover letters are sometimes a requirement as part of the job application process as well.
